Citizen Academy
Citizen Academy
programs help people: 1) critically examine and understand social issues; and 2) use their service, learning and leadership to impact those issues. Simply put, Citizen Academy programs improve people’s abilities to lead and work with others to strengthen their communities. Because they are being implemented across the nation (and world), specific program formats vary. Nonetheless, they typically focus on increasing understanding of social issues, teaching people how to get involved, developing leadership skills and demystifying the political process. Current program formats range from book clubs, conversation cafés and film screenings to board training and placement programs, TeamWorks (team-based service learning activities) and extended leadership development tracks.
